Plot summary

Dolores is a young and beautiful Cuban woman who leaves her country and goes after her boyfriend Lázaro, who is supposed to spend one year in Spain working as a musician. When Dolores arrives in Madrid, no one picks her up at the airport. She calls Lázaro's phone number, but a woman answers and tells her that he is in jail for kidnapping and trying to rape her. Dolores is shocked and heartbroken, but she decides to stay in Madrid and wait for him.

She finds a cheap hotel and gets a job as a waitress in a bar. She also meets Ramón, a Spanish lawyer who is attracted to her and offers to help her with Lázaro's case. Dolores visits Lázaro in prison and tries to convince him that she still loves him and that they can start over. However, Lázaro is depressed and addicted to drugs, and he blames Dolores for his situation. He tells her that he doesn't want to see her anymore and that she should go back to Cuba.

Dolores is hurt and confused, but she refuses to give up on him. She continues to work hard and save money for his bail. She also develops a friendship with Ramón, who supports her emotionally and financially. She hopes that Lázaro will change his mind and appreciate her efforts. However, when Lázaro is released from prison, he rejects Dolores again and runs away with another woman. Dolores realizes that he doesn't love her anymore and that she has wasted her time and energy on him.

She decides to move on with her life and pursue her own dreams. She enrolls in a dance school and discovers her talent for flamenco. She also falls in love with Ramón, who proposes to marry her. Dolores accepts and prepares to start a new life with him. However, on the day of their wedding, Lázaro shows up at the church and begs Dolores to forgive him and take him back.
